Amman, Feb. 1 (Petra) -- A short-lived rise in temperatures on Sunday is set to precede a noticeable shift in weather conditions early next week, as a cold and moist air mass moves in, the Meteorological Department said.

Temperatures on Sunday are expected to climb to around 8–9 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages, bringing mild conditions to most areas and warmer weather to low-lying regions, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Medium- and high-level clouds are forecast, with moderate winds shifting between southwesterly and southeasterly directions.

Conditions are expected to turn cooler on Monday, with temperatures easing but remaining above long-term norms. Skies will be mostly clear, with relatively cold weather prevailing across most regions, while low-lying areas remain comparatively warm. Southwesterly winds will blow at moderate speeds, occasionally strengthening.

A more pronounced change is forecast for Tuesday, when the Kingdom is expected to come under the influence of a cold and moist air mass, triggering a sharp drop in temperatures. The weather will become cold and unsettled, with skies ranging from partly cloudy to overcast. Intermittent rainfall is expected from the morning hours across northern and central regions, briefly extending to southwestern areas, with thunderstorms possible at times.

The department warned that strong westerly winds on Tuesday could raise dust, particularly in Badia regions, potentially reducing visibility.

A slight improvement is expected on Wednesday, with temperatures edging higher. Despite the uptick, conditions will remain cold in most areas, while becoming milder in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Low-level clouds and moderate northwesterly winds are forecast.

On Sunday, temperatures in eastern Amman are expected to range between 22 C and 12 C, compared with 20 C to 10 C in western Amman. The northern highlands will see temperatures of 19 C to 10 C, while the Sharah highlands are forecast at 20 C to 9 C. In the Badia, temperatures will reach 25 C during the day before falling to 12 C at night, and in the plains between 23 C and 13 C.

Temperatures in the northern Jordan Valley are expected to range between 26 C and 15 C, rising to 29 C and 17 C in the southern Jordan Valley. The Dead Sea area will see temperatures of 28 C to 16 C, while Aqaba is forecast to record highs of 28 C and lows of 18 C.
